NG Turf Dedicated to Ongoing Continuing Education to Ensure Quality and Use of Best Practices in Turfgrass Industry
In an ongoing effort to keep informed about scientific developments and ensure best practices throughout their organization, the NG Turf team participates in many educational and industry specific events throughout the year.
NG Turf EDGE Expo
In December, 2017, they once again attended the Georgia Urban Agriculture Council’s annual EDGE (Educate, Dem0nstrate, Grow, and Equip) conference. Programs included seminars on turf care, landscape management, irrigation best practices, and water management. The Urban Agriculture Council’s mission is to promote the environmental and economic benefits of urban agriculture while supporting best practices for sustainability in the industry.
NG Turf also sent a team to the Georgia Green Industry Association’s Wintergreen meeting in January 2018. GGIA is a statewide trade association dedicated to advancing the economic, lifestyle, and environmental benefits of Georgia horticulture. The theme of the conference this year was “Come Grow With Us” and featured seminars on pest management, water management, industry compliance, and turf care best practices.
Later this month, another NG Turf delegation will participate in the Landscape Planning Short-course offered by the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Topics of study include landscape pest and disease management, landscape design, new tree species under development for the south east, and urban landscape design.
Several of the NG Turf staff are already Certified Turfgrass Management Professionals. Currently, 6 additional team members are studying for their certification exam. The 140-hour training program offered by the University of Georgia provides expert level education in turfgrass selection, care, management, and troubleshooting for many uses, including sports fields and golf courses.
“Our industry is always changing as scientists continue to develop a better understanding of turfgrass care and environmental management,” explains Aaron McWhorter, President of NG Turf. “We are privileged to have so many wonderful continuing education opportunities available to us through our professional associations and the University of Georgia. Our entire staff is committed to keeping up with industry advances so we can continue to provide our customers with the highest quality turfgrass available today.”
