In 1985, Aaron McWhorter made a decision that would not only shape his family’s future, but would also redefine sod production in the Southeast. With a deep-rooted belief in hard work, service, and doing things right, he planted the first acres of Bermudagrass on his family farm in Whitesburg, Georgia.
Forty years later, NG Turf is proud to celebrate a milestone that represents more than just longevity—it’s a celebration of commitment, community, and growth.
Rooted in Family, Driven by Values
NG Turf was built on McWhorter’s vision of combining quality products with unmatched customer service, and that same philosophy still drives the business today. What started as a small 25-acre operation has grown into multiple farms across the state, producing hundreds of acres of certified, farm fresh sod for homeowners, landscapers, golf courses, and athletic fields throughout the Southeast.
The company remains family owned and operated, with second-generation family members carrying the legacy forward. Over the years, Aaron McWhorter’s children—Mark McWhorter, Merett Alexander, and Natalie Howard—along with son-in-law Jutt Howard, have each played important roles in NG Turf’s continued growth, helping to uphold the values of quality, service, and a deep commitment to customers.
“Family run, quality driven, customer focused — with these ideals we’ve grown from a small tract of Bermuda grass into a leading sod producer in the Southeast,” McWhorter reflects.
What Makes NG Turf Different?
After 40 years, NG Turf has become synonymous with premium sod, expert guidance, and reliable service. But what really sets the company apart is a deep dedication to customer satisfaction.
The NG Turf Difference Includes:
✅ Farm Fresh Sod harvested daily for peak freshness
✅ Certified Sod Varieties, backed by Georgia Crop Improvement Association (GCIA)
✅ One Year Warranty on warm season sod varieties*
✅ Knowledgeable Support from Certified Turfgrass Professionals
✅ Monday Morning & Saturday Deliveries for added convenience
This isn’t just business—it’s a long-standing promise to do things right, and to make it right if something ever falls short.
“Sod is more than just grass. It’s the strength of the product, the color, the soil—but it’s also the delivery, the timing, the service, the follow-up, and the warranty. All of that together is what defines real quality.”
– Jutt Howard, Vice President of Business Operations
Growing More Than Grass
Over the years, NG Turf has expanded not only its acreage but its role in the turfgrass industry. Today, the company is recognized not just as a grower, but as a trusted resource for turfgrass professionals and homeowners alike. Their team fields daily calls with advice on installation, care, and long-term maintenance—often years after the sod is delivered.
In fact, this dedication to education and long-term customer relationships has shaped major company decisions, such as acquiring new farmland closer to the Atlanta market to reduce delivery times and lower costs for customers.
Certified Quality You Can Count On
NG Turf’s commitment to excellence is evident in every blade of grass. They grow and deliver top-performing sod varieties, including:
