Maintenance Guide
Once established, Stadium Zoysia™ requires about 1 inch of water per week from rainfall or irrigation, depending on soil conditions and regional climate. During periods of extreme heat or drought, increase watering frequency to maintain color and health. This variety is highly drought tolerant, recovering quickly after stress. Test your soil before installation and amend if needed; Stadium Zoysia™ thrives in soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5. Install in full sun to partial shade for best performance. Known for its durability and dense growth, this variety is well-suited for both residential and commercial applications. Stadium Zoysia™ must be mowed below 3/4 inch, measured from the thatch or soil level to the height after mowing. A reel mower is the best choice for maintaining the proper mowing height, though a rotary mower lowered below 3/4 inch may also be used. During June, July, and August, mowing may be required two to three times per week, then as needed through December. Avoid allowing leaves and stems to grow above 1 inch, as excessive top growth can slow spring green-up by blocking sunlight from reaching new growth and warming the soil.
Apply 0.5 to 1 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet annually—once in late spring and again in late summer. Conduct a soil test to determine specific nutrient needs and avoid over-fertilizing, which can increase susceptibility to disease. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers in the fall. Stadium Zoysia™ demonstrates enhanced resistance to many common zoysiagrass diseases, especially when managed with proper watering and fertilization. Avoid over-fertilization to reduce the risk of diseases like Zoysia Patch. Like most warm-season grasses, it can be affected by pests such as grubs or fall armyworms. Preventative treatments are recommended for sod installed in late summer through early fall.
