Understanding watering restrictions set forth by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the state Environmental Protection Division is a must for area homeowners to avoid costly fines while protecting your landscape investments in times of drought.
- During times of drought, daily outdoor watering for purposes of planting, growing, managing, or maintaining ground cover, trees, shrubs, or other plants is permitted only between the hours of 4 pm and 10 am by anyone whose water is supplied by a municipal water system. Watering outside of these times can result in fines and citations. ***
- Newly laid sod can be watered as needed without restriction for 30 days after installation. After this period of time, you will be required to follow the 4 pm to 10 am rules. ***
*** These watering restrictions only apply to people using water from municipal sources. If you have a private well on your property, use reclaimed storm water, or recycled gray water, you may water as needed without restriction.
TifTuf Bermuda Sod: Drought Resistant Grass
Drought is an ongoing problem in Georgia, and throughout the entire southeast. That is the primary reason why so much research went into the development of TifTuf™ Bermudagrass.
“TifTuf™ sets the new industry standard for sustainability and drought resistance,” explains Aaron McWhorter, President of NG Turf. “Not only does it actually need 38% less water to thrive, it boasts superior wear tolerance, early spring green up, excellent fall color retention, and rapid grow-in rates.”
TifTuf™ has fine, bright green blades and grows rapidly, allowing for faster establishment and quicker recovery from injury. TifTuf™ displays superior insect and disease resistance; grows well in both sun and shade; maintains a healthy appearance even under heavy traffic; and maintains density, color, and vigor while using less water than other varieties. Like all Bermudagrasses, TifTuf™ is a warm season turf, going dormant in winter, so TifTuf™ can be harvested and installed year-round.
If you are concerned about drought or simply wish to maintain a more sustainable landscape, TifTuf™ Bermudagrass is the perfect sod choice for you. Farm-fresh TifTuf™ sod is available today at all NG Turf locations.
