When it comes to backyard design, the best spaces are the ones built around how a family actually lives. This recent project in Marietta, GA is a perfect example of turning a backyard into something both functional and unforgettable.
From upgraded drainage to a custom bike path designed for kids, every detail of this landscape was carefully planned to create a space that encourages outdoor play, creativity, and lasting family memories. The finishing touch? Beautiful #ZeonZoysia that brings the entire project together with a clean, polished look.
Great work by David Diersen (@ddiersen30) bringing this vision to life.
Every family uses their outdoor space differently. In this case, the goal was to create a backyard that could handle everyday activity while giving the kids a fun and unique place to play.
The custom bike track winds through the lawn, creating an inviting play area that feels like an adventure right outside the back door. Instead of a traditional open backyard, this design adds movement, creativity, and purpose to the space while still maintaining a clean and attractive landscape.
Projects like this show how thoughtful landscape design can transform a backyard into more than just grass — it becomes a place where memories are made.
Before the sod installation, the property received important drainage upgrades to help manage water flow throughout the yard. Proper drainage is one of the most important parts of any successful lawn installation, especially in Georgia where heavy rain can quickly create issues in poorly graded areas.
By addressing drainage first, the finished lawn is better prepared to handle everyday use while maintaining healthy growing conditions for the grass long term.
To complete the project, the lawn was finished with Zeon Zoysia — a premium fine-bladed zoysia known for its beauty, durability, and soft texture.
- Dense growth that creates a clean, manicured appearance
- Soft texture that feels comfortable underfoot
- Excellent durability for active outdoor spaces
- Strong performance in Georgia’s climate
- Beautiful color and uniform appearance throughout the growing season
Zeon Zoysia works especially well in custom backyard projects because it combines visual appeal with the ability to handle regular family activity.
One of the best parts of this project is how personalized the space feels. Instead of following a standard backyard layout, this design was built specifically around the homeowner’s lifestyle and the kids who will grow up using it.
Outdoor spaces that encourage imagination, movement, and time together often become the most meaningful part of a home. Whether it’s a play track, gathering space, or open lawn for everyday activities, thoughtful design can completely change how a backyard is enjoyed.
